Prayer to Live a Long and Healthy Life

RENEW MY YOUTH (b):

Bless the LORD o my soul, and forget not all his benefits; He heals all your ills, He redeems your life from destruction, He fills your lifetime with good; your youth is renewed like the eagles’ (Ps 103:2–5). LORD, You have declared: Because he loves me, I will rescue him, I will protect him … I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation (Ps 91:14–16).

RENEW MY YOUTH (a):

You, LORD, are the eternal God. You do not faint nor grow weary. You give strength to the fainting; for the weak You make vigor abound. Though young men faint and grow weary, and the youths stagger and fall, they that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings, they shall run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint (Is 40:28–31).

RENEW MY YOUTH (c):

Like Abraham at 175 years of age (Gn 25:7) and Sarah at 127 (Gn 23:1), like Isaac at 180 (Gn 35:28), Jacob at 147 (Gn 47:28), Joseph and Joshua at 110 (Gn 50:26; Jos 24:29), Judith at 105 (Jdt 16:23), Tobit at 112, Tobias at 117 (Tb 14:2,14) and Job at 140 (Jb 42:16), may I expire and die in happy old age, full of days. Like Moses, aged 120 at his death, may my eye be undimmed, my vigor unimpaired (Dt 34:7). May I be able to say, like Caleb said to Joshua when he was 85 years old, “I am still as strong today as I was on the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war, and for going and coming” Joshua 14:11. Jehoiada lived till 130 years, a ripe old age (2 Ch 24:15). O LORD, as You did for them, preserve my strength, and until my old age, let it remain with me (Si 46:9). The desire of the just man will be granted (Pr 10:24).

31).

RENEW MY YOUTH (d):

You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; You have anointed me with rich oil. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap, showing that You, LORD are upright. You are my Rock (Ps 92:10,12–15). May my flesh be renewed like a child’s; restored as in the days of my youth (Jb 33:25).

RENEW MY YOUTH (e):

Jesus, by Your bruises I am healed (Is 53:5). You have sent me to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke (Is 58:6). That is why You will renew my strength I shall be like a watered garden (v. 11). Thank You, LORD.
